A sampler plays a recording from a note. Load a sound using Find and record sounds, select its track, then open DEVICES > Sample. The sample name and waveform identify the sound you are editing.
4.1Set pitch and note behavior
Root is the note that plays the source at its original pitch. With Stretch off, playing an octave below Root makes the recording twice as long and an octave lower. An octave above makes it half as long and an octave higher.
- Use a sample with a long decay. Turn Loop off for this comparison.
- Beside Trigger, choose Gate. Play a short note from KEYS, then a longer one. Releasing the key starts the amp release.
- Choose One shot and play a short note again. The sample continues after ordinary key release or gate length.
- Beside Voices, choose Mono and play two notes. The second retriggers the sound. Choose Poly to let their decays overlap.
Legato keeps the same sample and slice running when notes overlap, changing its pitch without restarting its attack. A different sample or slice starts a fresh voice. The amp envelope and loop's note-end setting also affect duration. See note endings for OFF, FAD and CUT.
4.2Hear what Bits and Rate change
Bits and Rate rebuild the internal audio that the sampler plays. Bits changes the amplitude resolution of that copy; Rate changes its sampling rate. The original source audio stays intact.
- Load a bright drum hit. Set Mode > Modern, Stretch > Off and Pitch to 0 st.
- Hold Audition to hear it. Tap Rate and choose a lower rate. Audition again, listening to the attack and high frequencies.
- In KEYS, play the same sound an octave below its Root. You are slowing down the converted sample.
- Tap Bits, choose 8 bit, and listen to the quiet end of the decay. Return Bits and Rate to Source to compare.
The conversion happens before pitched playback. Lofi, in the effects rack, processes the audio after the instrument has played it. Transposing the notes therefore gives a different comparison.
Interp chooses how stored points are read: Hold, Linear or Paula. Modern, Amiga, M3000 and SP12 set combinations of Bits, Rate and Interp. After changing a mode, read those three values to see what changed. Adjusting a value away from the combination leaves no named mode selected.

Offline renders from the Tracker Pro 1.1 sampler code, revision 2749a86. Linear interpolation, stretch off and matched RMS level. These clips keep pitch and interpolation fixed so you can hear the conversion settings.
4.3Add another sound to a sampler
A bank holds several samples in one sampler. A note chooses one sample, optionally with a slice within it. Adding samples does not layer them together.
- Tap the Sample name box on the sampler card.
- Choose ADD SAMPLE FROM LIBRARY.
- Tap a library sound to preview it, then tap Add to bank.
- Reopen the Sample menu and select a numbered sample to edit or audition it.
Each sample keeps its own slices, character settings and Root. Trigger and Voices apply to the sampler. In a bank note's editor, the Sample selector chooses which member that note plays. CHANGE SAMPLE replaces the selected member instead of adding one.
If an add action is unavailable, check the capacity shown in the Sample menu. Other instruments, bank samples and project sample memory all affect available space. Replace a sound covers replacement and reassignment.
4.4Fit a loop to the pattern
Start with an unsliced loop whose musical length you know. For example, a two-bar recording should use a two-bar Fit.
- Tap Stretch and choose Vintage to change duration while keeping pitch.
- Tap Fit and choose the loop's number of bars.
- Play the pattern and listen to where the loop ends. Fit length shows the calculated stretch amount.
- Adjust Cycle to hear how the grain length changes the stretched texture. Changing Fit length manually unlinks Fit.
Varispeed changes duration by changing speed, so pitch follows. At 200% length it lasts twice as long and sounds an octave lower. If you choose Fit while Stretch is Off, it selects Varispeed. Choose Vintage first when you want to preserve pitch.
Use Filter to shape the tone and Amp to shape attack, sustain and release. These remain adjustable after Resample.
