Load the four-hit recording into a sampler: kick, snare, kick, snare at 120 BPM. Select that track, open DEVICES > Sample, then tap Edit. The editor fills the workspace; Done returns to the panels.
5.1Set what part plays
Start with Slices off on the sampler card if you want to trim the whole recording. With slicing on, Trim edits the selected slice's bounds instead.
- In the editor, choose Trim.
- Move Start to just before an attack and End after its decay. Drag the waveform handles or the value fields.
- Choose Raw at the top and press Play to hear the audio. Choose Sampler to hear the instrument and track devices.
- Press Stop. Use Reset to whole sample to restore the complete recording before the slicing exercise.
Audio outside the bounds remains in the source. For slices, the reset button reads Reset to slice map. Pinch to zoom and drag with two fingers to scroll. Below the waveform, Snap > Zero finds zero crossings and Grid follows the beat grid; Free leaves placement unsnapped. The crosshair button opens Precision controls for small boundary adjustments.
5.2Divide the phrase into four slices
The four-hit recording has evenly spaced hits, so use Equal divisions first.
- Open Slices, then tap Generate.
- Choose Equal and set Count to 4. Four proposed slice regions appear.
- Tap Apply 4. This replaces the previous map and per-slice settings.
- Set Playback > Stop at next, then tap pads 01 through 04 below the waveform. Each should play one hit. Move a boundary if it cuts into an attack.
Use Transient and Sensitivity for unevenly spaced attacks. Beats uses source tempo and beat divisions. Generate only previews a map; Cancel keeps the existing one. Undo restores a map after Apply.
To place one boundary yourself, tap its position on the waveform, then choose Split at cursor. A selected slice has Tune, Level, Decay, direction and Choke controls. Slices in the same choke group stop each other. A bank sample is a separate recording; a slice is a region within one recording.
5.3Put slices into a pattern
Keep the four slices from the previous section.
- In Slices, open To pattern.
- Choose PATTERN FROM SOURCE TIMING.
- Review the destination preview, then tap CREATE.
- Return to the tracker and play the new pattern. The slice notes should reproduce the source's spacing. Move a note to change the phrase.
The generated pattern uses a snapshot of the sampler. Later changes to the original sampler do not change that snapshot. WRITE SELECTED SLICE puts just the selected piece on the current tracker row. PATTERN FROM SLICE ORDER places one slice per row, which can give a different rhythm from the source.
5.4Repeat a sustained region
Use a recording with a sustained tone. A drum attack repeated on its own usually produces a buzz.
- Open Loop and switch its Loop control on.
- Set Loop in and Loop out inside the selected sample or slice.
- Choose Forward or Ping pong. Press Play and adjust Crossfade while listening at the joins.
- Under When the note ends, choose Stop, Finish cycle or Release tail.
Stop ends at note-off. Finish cycle reaches the next loop edge first. Release tail leaves the loop and follows the amp release. A loop can sound through empty tracker rows, so give its note a gate or an ending command.
5.5Apply an audio edit
Process changes the project's source audio. Save a project copy first if you want to keep two versions.
- Choose Process > Selection, then drag across the waveform with one finger. Check the Selection start, Selection end and Length readouts.
- Choose Reverse, then Preview. The selected sound plays backwards without committing the edit.
- Tap Apply to change the audio. Undo restores it.
Playback uses the playback bounds; Whole sample uses all source audio. Normalize raises the peak, Gain adjusts level, and DC correction centers an offset waveform. Fade in and Fade out shape the range. Crop keeps only the range; Delete removes it and joins the remaining audio. Duplicate selection to new sampler copies the selected audio into a separate instrument.
5.6Print the sampler's character
- Tap Done to return to the sampler card.
- Set the Bits, Rate, Interp and Stretch sound you want to keep.
- Tap Resample. The processed audio becomes the new project source and the printed character controls reset. Undo restores the previous source and settings.
Filter, amp and per-slice Tune stay live. Resample does not print the complete track effect chain. Use BOUNCE TRACK in the track's selection actions when you need that processed track as a new sampler. With no render running, Resample is dimmed when there is nothing to print.
