Use .dtproj for editable music, the library for reusable sounds, and WAV or ZIP exports for rendered results. These actions affect different copies of the audio.
R4.1File ownership
| Action | What changes |
|---|---|
| Import audio or a folder into User | Copies sounds into the user library. It does not load them onto a track. |
| Link a folder | Keeps files in their original location and stores access to that folder. |
| Load a sample | Gives the project its own audio, independent of the library source. |
| Change Bits or Rate | Rebuilds internal playback audio from the sampler source. |
| Process or Resample | Replaces project audio. Session Undo can restore the previous project state while that history remains. |
| Crate Stop & Edit | Saves the take in the library and loads an independent project copy for editing. |
| Save a project | Writes the .dtproj package, including loaded audio and plug-in state. |
| Export | Creates a WAV or ZIP in Exports. SAVE TO FILES creates another copy at the chosen destination. |
R4.2Manage the library
Open BROWSE and choose User. Use its + menu to import audio, import a folder, link a folder or extract audio from video. The sounds chapter gives the loading steps.
- Open a stored sample's menu and choose Duplicate to make another library copy, or Move… to choose another library folder.
- Use Delete… only for a file or folder you want removed. Deleting a stored folder removes its contents. Project Undo does not restore library deletions.
- For a linked folder, use Remove from library to remove its link while leaving the external files intact.
- If the link loses access, choose Reconnect folder… and select its folder again. Refresh the library after changing files outside the app.
Manage the original linked files in Files. Already-loaded project audio remains independent of library moves and deletions.
R4.3Supported audio
The library lists WAV, WAVE, AIF, AIFF, AIFC, CAF, MP3, M4A, AAC and FLAC. Files must decode successfully before they can load.
| Limit | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Channels | Mono or stereo. |
| Duration | Strictly shorter than 120 seconds. |
| Decoded size per sample | Below 46,080,000 bytes of 32-bit float audio. A high-rate stereo file may reach this before the duration limit. |
| Project memory | Loaded samples share a memory pool determined by the device; other samples reduce the space available. |
| Playback sources | Sample banks share the project's source capacity. There is no unconditional per-track sample-count allowance. |
If a file is too long, audition it using Raw, then trim it before loading. If project sample memory is full, remove unused sources before trying again. Loaded audio is stored as 32-bit float at its source rate. That storage format is separate from sampler Bits and exported WAV depth.
Import audio from video… extracts a recording from Files or Photos into the library.
R4.4Project files and compatibility
Open project name > OPEN... for Projects. This project shows the package filename and either On My iPad, Tracker Pro or Opened from Files.
| Action | Location and active project |
|---|---|
| Project menu SAVE | Updates the open package. |
| Project menu SAVE AS... | Makes a named package in Tracker Pro's local folder and switches to it. |
| Save copy under This project | Opens a Files destination picker, saves there and opens that copy. |
| Cover menu Duplicate | Makes a sibling package and leaves the current session open. |
| Browse Files | Opens a complete .dtproj from another location. |
| Rename | Changes the project name; an external package can retain its external filename. |
Move or copy the complete package in Files. Audio Unit state is saved; the plug-in app itself is not. Install the same plug-in on another iPad, or keep an exported audio version.
If the app requests an update for a newer project format, use a compatible version. If Projects lists missing samples, restore the named files and reopen the package, or replace those samples before saving.
R4.5Backup, recovery and cleanup
Edits schedule autosave after about 1.2 seconds without another edit. Pending edits are also saved when the app deactivates. Use explicit SAVE after editing an Audio Unit: autosave can defer its live state capture while playback runs.
The package keeps up to four saved generations with shared unchanged audio. An older readable generation may recover a damaged current save. Because they are inside the same package, they are not separate backups. Use Save copy for a copy in another location.
In Projects, Purge unused removes audio no instrument currently uses. Old recovery generations can retain their own references until they rotate out. To delete a project, open another project first, then use the unwanted cover's ellipsis > Delete…. This deletion is outside project Undo.
R4.6Export formats and limits
| Format | Contents |
|---|---|
| MASTER WAV | Stereo mix with track, return and master processing. |
| TRACKS ZIP | Aligned stereo track files and separate returns, without master processing. |
| 16-bit / 24-bit | Integer PCM WAV with dither. |
| 32-bit float | Floating-point WAV that can preserve levels above full scale for further processing. |
All exports run at 48 kHz. Each WAV or ZIP is subject to its 4 GB format limit, and exporting checks available storage. Shorten the range or lower the bit depth if the app reports that limit.
Held notes release at the musical endpoint. The tail continues until quiet or its limit: ordinarily ten seconds, or up to 120 seconds with active Ambient Reverb. Audio still sounding at the limit fades out. Every stem in a ZIP has the same duration.
FAST and REAL TIME affect hosted Audio Unit rendering. MIDI Out sends no notes during rendering; record external instruments as audio first.
After WAV READY or TRACKS ZIP READY, use SAVE TO FILES or SHARE. The original remains in Files > On My iPad > Tracker Pro > Exports. Remove unwanted renders in Files to reclaim storage.
