While working at their own station, students will be lead by an instructor through the
fascinating and fun world of music production. Over the course of two-days, you'll gain a
basic understanding of how to put a track together using Reason, Logic 8 and Ableton
Live.
• Computer Overview - Learn the basic requirements for setting up
your home studio.
• Drum Programming - Learn the art of drum machine programming
• Song Arrangement - Build a track with software synthesizers and
music loops.
• Fundamentals of Mixing - Learn how to blend and polish your track
with audio effects.
The only pre-requisite is a basic understanding of computers. Students will
leave with a CD of their completed tracks.
This 6-hour Ableton Live weekend intensive workshop is geared toward beginners who are interested in learning music creation using Live as the medium. Prior musical experience or knowledge of Live or is not required. Through hands-on exercises students learn Live's various panes, effects and mixing facilities. By the end of the workshop, students are familiar enough with Live that they are able to showcase and perform their songs for their peers. Students have their own personal stations equipped with a full suite of software and hardware, enabling them to replicate what the teacher is doing on the projector. Due to the small class size and open learning environment, each student receives ample personal attention and comes away with working knowledge of this ingenious program.

This 6-hour weekend intensive workshop is designed to introduce students to Logic Pro. The goal of this two-day workshop is to teach students how to use Logic to compose beats, melodies and sound effects in order to create original songs. Time is spent on basic midi and audio connections and terms, as well as how to properly set up a Logic session and configure it to work with their equipment. Attention is given to the various editing, mixing and composition options that Logic offers. All students work at their own workstation and complete hands on exercises to allow them to practice what they are learning, students receive personal attention to help them with their questions and concerns. By the close of the two-day workshop students will have a solid understanding of the fundamental operations of Logic.
We're all used to making 3 to 4 minute songs for the dance floor. However, we'll see and hear that 30 second car commercial or MTV Promo and think: "How can I get into that?" or "I can make that." This course will discuss the ins and outs of composing music for picture, video, or any moving image. We will go over the day-to-day dialogue, work flow, and technical needs to compete in this world of writing music for picture such as:
•Using Sound Effects
•Syncing audio with video
•Writing 15- 30 seconds of music with a beginning, middle, and end
•Using Reason and Logic to compose to picture
This 6-hour weekend intensive workshop is designed to introduce students to the more advanced editing, mixing and arranging functions that are available in Pro Tools. The goal of this two-day workshop is to show students how to take their basic loop and arrange and mix it to create a complete song. Time is spent going over basic effects and plugins such as EQ, Compression, Delay and Reverb. Students will be shown recording functions and advanced audio and midi editing techniques. Students will do hands on exercises to allow them to practice what they are learning and ask questions. Each student gets their own workstation and will receive personal attention to help them with their questions and concerns. By the close of the two-day workshop students will have a solid understanding of the advanced operations of Pro Tools.
This 6-hour weekend intensive workshop is designed to introduce students to Reason. The goal of this two-day workshop is to teach students how to use Reason to compose beats, melodies and sound effects in order to create original songs. Time is spent on basic midi and audio connections and terms, as well as how to properly set up a Reason session and configure it to work with their equipment. Attention is given to the various editing, mixing and composition options that Reason offers. All students work at their own workstation and complete hands on exercises to allow them to practice what they are learning, students receive personal attention to help them with their questions and concerns. By the close of the two-day workshop students will have a solid understanding of the fundamental operations of Reason.
An 6- hour intensive workshop that covers techniques such as sequencing, sampling, editing and recording using the MPC 2500. This course will begin with a general overview of what sampling is and how the use of samples apply to the creation of current music. The impact that the MPC has had on recorded music since the early 90's is immeasurable. During this session, students learn how to link the MPC to other modules, sync the MPC to a computer and utilize the onboard effects. Saving/loading, creating sequences and programs will also be covered. During the final segment of the course students draw on what they have learned and use the MPC to edit MIDI and audio to create their own 'beats' and songs.
Learn the ins & outs of the industry standard tools for visual mixing, used in nightclubs & video installations worldwide. Hook up DVD players, laptops, projectors and more. Work with switching and sequencing clips. Use video sources to mix on the beat with your music or with the DJ.
